Poem #2 - The Tiger and the Toaster

Howdy Hey!

I'm on a roll! While making breakfast this morning, I came up with this poem and illustration. I drew it in pen and threw some quick color on it in Photoshop. It doesn't make a whole lot of sense, but I'm proud to be one of the few people who have drawn a toaster holding tiger. You gotta cherish the small things in life.

Poem #1 - Longhorn Steer

Howdy hey!

Here's a little poem and sketch I worked up tonight. I've been challenged to write and illustrate poems on a regular basis. I'll attempt to post one on my blog each week. The topic and style will vary, but I'm feeling the that the first couple will be inspired by animals. Hopefully it will churn up some useful and interesting (and most definitely weird) ideas. Thanks for visiting!

Jazmyn Update

Howdy Folks!

Here's an update on the Jazmyn illustration I posted a little while back.

These are the first thumbnails I sent to the client.

I created this final sketch before creating the finished illustration.

In addition to the colored final, they commissioned a line drawing version to use as a coloring book page, which I think is a pretty nifty idea.

On a side note, I just found out today that having this illustration published by Rainbow Rumpus Magazine qualifies me for full membership with the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators! Hooray! Thanks for visiting.

There are twenty of my favorite pieces hanging up at the Evergreen Hospital and the space is open 24/7! And if you've seen the show already, you've got two weeks left to visit it again. Here' s a link to a map and more info:

On a completely different note, I just finished up a sketchbook and scanned a few of the drawings. Thanks for visiting!

My Sketchbook on the Art House Coop site

Unfortunately, they didn't scan all the fold-out pages, but you can see the full sketchbook on my website:

The 2012 Sketchbook Project World Tour kicks off April 14th at the Brooklyn Art Library and over the course of 2012, it will visit 14 cities in four countries. I saw the 2011 tour when it came through Seattle and it was truly inspiring and fun. You get your very own Brooklyn Art Library card and you can spend the day checking out sketchbooks created by all types of artist from around the world. I highly recommend visiting a tour location if there is one near you. Here's the tour schedule:

New Illustration Online!

Howdy Folks!

A few months back, Rainbow Rumpus Magazine commissioned me to create an illustration for one of their short stories. You can now see it online!

I also created a coloring book page for the story, which can be downloaded here:

Rainbow Rumpus is an online magazine that publishes articles and stories for kids who have have LGBT parents. I think the magazine is way neat and I'm very honored that they hired me to create an image for them.

A little while back, I sent a promo postcard out with an image of the Greek Goddess of rainbows. They told that's how they heard about me. It's nice to know that mailers work. Yay!
